Interactive Whiteboards

Interactive Whiteboards

The basics

An Interactive Whiteboard is a projected display, commonly used in a learning environment, that displays the screen of a single computer and displays it onto a smart screen. This screen han be interacted with people, ether with direct contact or with accessories that come with the interactive whiteboard, such as 'pens'.

The main purpose of the Interactive Whiteboard is to assist in teaching through allowing a visual representation of classwork. The Interactive Whiteboard is more effective than an ordinary whiteboard as it allows for video, images and for students to see information straight for the internet, rather than just notes from the teacher. This also allows for easier planning for teachers as they can straight up find information, and can show preprepared notes without having to write them again infront of the class.

The Interactive Whiteboard is also more effective than a projector because of its interactivity. Teachers can write and select options on the Interactive Whiteboard, which can improve the learning experience for students as the see how things are done.

How it works

First, the projector recieves data from its connected computer, and mirrors the computer's display in a projection onto the Interactive Whiteboard.

Then when a user touches or otherwise interacts with the Interactive Whiteboard, the Interactive Whiteboard reads and calculated were on the screen was touched/interacted with, and sends this infromation to the computer, which treats the interaction the same way it would treat a mouse.

The changes the interaction caused is pisplayed on the computers screen, which is projected once again by the projector in a continuous loop.
